Um mehr über den Bestandsrückgang der Zwergschwäne zu erfahren und der besonderen Verantwortung Deutschlands für diese Art gerecht zu werden, wurde im November 2020 das Projekt „Zwergschwan: Schutzkonzept für eine bedrohte Zugvogelart in Deutschland“ gestartet. Gefördert wird das Projekt im Rahmen des Bundesprogramms Biologische Vielfalt durch das Bundesamt für Naturschutz mit Mitteln des Bundesumweltministeriums. Auch der DDA und seine Partnerverbände NOV, OAMV und OAGSH beteiligt sich an diesem Projekt unter der Leitung des Michael-Otto-Institut im NABU. Mehr dazu erfahren sie unter: https://zwergschwan.de/
