Happy Easter: TopPlusOpen available as new map layer

As of today - as a little Easter surprise - TopPlusOpen, a new map layer, is available. TopPlusOpen is provided free of charge by the Federal Office of Cartography and Geodesy (BKG). They supplement the topographic maps that have become somewhat outdated in some regions: Particularly in the cities and settlements, the maps are not only up to date, they are also very detailed (including street names and house numbers), which simplifies exact positioning from now on. The new layer also simplifies orientation and location wherever buildings, streets or waters have been newly created (or disappeared). Currently TopPlusOpen is integrated in the web version of ornitho.de and ornitho.lu. We are working on making the new map service available via the NaturaList app in the near future.

TopPlusOpen of the BKG is a freely usable, worldwide web map based on free and official data sources. For this purpose, many different data sources were combined, processed and combined in the BKG in order to achieve the best possible map presentation. Further information on TopPlusOpen can be found on the BKG website.

The integration was implemented as part of the research and development project "Acceleration of data flow in bird monitoring: concept development", which is funded by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation with funds from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
